本次的动画改编自漆原友纪原作漫画《虫师》中未被动画化的「日蚀之翳」篇，动画集结了TV版的原班人马，再次将经典搬上小荧幕！同时声优也沿用了TV版阵容，汇聚了中野裕斗、渡边优奈、佐佐木理绪等。
