2005年7月30日美国通用电气集团董事会29日正式批准其下属的NBC(全国广播公司)-环球**公司收购梦工厂**公司。环球**公司与梦工厂将就有关收购事宜进入正式谈判阶段。
实力雄厚的NBC-环球**公司收购梦工厂后有望向这家私人合伙公司提供强大的资金支持。而谈判的难点将是如何确定梦工厂公司的价格。据估计，交易价格应在10亿美元左右。
梦工厂是由著名**导演史蒂文·斯皮尔伯格与唱片业大亨戴维·格芬及前迪斯尼动画大师杰弗里·卡岑伯格于1994年联合创立的，意在建立一个横跨影视、动画、音乐及电子游戏等领域的娱乐帝国。然而，近年来梦工厂在电视、音乐及电子游戏等项目上的投资连遭失败，由此传出了唱片业出身的合伙人之一格芬萌生退意的消息。
梦工厂成立以来一直与环球**公司保持着密切的业务关系，它所产影片的海外发行工作以及DVD影碟的发行均由环球公司负责代理。此外，斯皮尔伯格本人与环球公司也关系密切，他早期执导的影片《大白鲨》、《ET外星人》和《侏罗纪公园》等都是为环球**公司拍摄的。
