 生命中最重要的

What’s the most important thing for you to have in your life Someboy mentions hard-work, others suggest knowledge, love and luck

If you arrange the 26 English letters alphabetically(按字母表的'顺序)and use numbers to represent each of them, for example, 1 for a, 2 for b, 3 for c…, you can change an English word into a number So hard-work becomes 8+1+18+4+23+15+18+11=98, meaning 98 is its mark; knowledge: 11+14+15+23+12+5+4+7+5=96, while love :12+15+22+5=54, and luck : 12+21+3+11=47, a small mark None of these words can give one a full mark What about money or prayer(祈祷) They can’t , either

Then what else Don’t be worried You can always find an answer to a problem in your life, when you change your way of looking at things or doing things, or your attitude(态度)Yes, attitude is the word See for yourself: attitude:1+20+20+9+20+21+4+5=100,a full mark

Different attitudes lead to different courses of life Most times people hope for a better life It is possible that one will have a change for the betterr after one has changed one’s attitude

When you change your manner and became friendly towards others, you’ll meet more smiling faces towards youIn the same way, if you take a positive(积极地)attitude towards failure(失败),you’ll find it’s also rewarding though it has caused you losses

Most people want to be happy, but few know how to find happiness Money and success alone do not bring lasting happiness Aristotle, a Greek thinker, said, “Happiness depends upon ourselves” In other words, we make our own happiness Here are a few suggestions to help you be happier

The first secret of happiness is to enjoy the simple things in life Too often, we spend so much time thinking about the future —for example, getting into college or getting a good job —that we fail to enjoy the present You should enjoy life’s simple pleasures, such as reading a good book, listening to your favorite music, or spending time with close friends People who have several close friends often live happier and healthier lives

Another secret to living a happy life is to be active, and have hobbies where you forget your problems and time Many people experience this dancing, or playing a sport, such as swimming You can forget about your problems, and only think about the activity Finally, many people find happiness in helping others Studies show that people feel good when they spend their time helping others If you want to feel happier, do good things for someone You can help a friend with his or her studies, go shopping to buy food for an elderly person, or simply help out around the house by washing the dishes

It is often necessary to release a fish, that is , set it free after catching, because it is too small, or you just don’t want to take it home to eat In some cases, releasing fish is a good measure that will help keep fish variety and build their population size The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) encourages fishermen who practice catch-and-release fishing to use a few simple skills when doing so The advice provided below will help make sure that the fish you release will survive (存活) to bite again another day

—When catching a fish, play it quickly and keep the fish in the water as much as possible Don’t use a net in landing the fish and release it quickly to prevent it from dying

—Hold the fish gently Do not put your fingers in its eyes Don’t wipe the scales (鱼鳞) off the fish because it might cause it to develop a disease and reduce its chance of survival

—Remove your hook (鱼钩) quickly If the hook is too deep or hooked in the stomach, cut the line and leave the hook in The hook left inside will cause no serious problem to the fish —Take good care of the fish by moving it gently in water Release the fish when it begins to struggle and is able to swim

I believe that my country, Poland, is a perfect example for a place where food is particularly important When we were little children, we began to understand how much a loaf of bread meant to our parents—to some it might sound silly but for me the custom of kissing bread before you started cutting it was simply amazing It's not so common nowadays to treat food that way, since you hardly ever bake your own bread Besides, everyone would call you crazy if you tried to kiss every bread roll before you ate them! But though we no longer make our food from scratch (起点), some customs have been kept--that's why I feel so sorry every time I have to throw any food away—even though I no longer live with my parents and nobody would blame me for this anymore!

Many people of our nation are still working as farmers, eating what they grow and harvest and therefore enjoying everything more It's widely known that you value more anything that needs your effort in the first place In most homes in Poland, especially those of farmers, the whole family would try and have their meals together--extremely difficult now, but so rewarding (值得) ! You can share other members' troubles and successes, give your children some attention, or just sit down for a moment instead of rushing through life aimlessly Furthermore, your body, and stomach in particular will be very grateful (感激) for such a time!

In Poland, a wedding, Christmas or even a birthday is celebrated with a great meal Women in the house get together and cook, sometimes for a few days before the event, and the extremely good or unusual food will be remembered and widely talked about

You cannot over-value the importance of food in the country What's more, almost everyone in Poland will be as interested in the topic as I am

56 When the writer was a child, he / she ________

A found people were crazy about bread B began to realize the importance of food

C thought that cutting bread was amazing D learned people hardly baked their own bread

57 The writer feels very sorry when he/she has to throw away any food because

A he/she makes food from scratch B his/her parents would blame him/her D many people are still working hard C some customs still have effect on him/her

 as farmers

58 From the text, we can learn that, in Poland, ________

A most meals can be interesting topics for a long time

B the whole family often have meals together nowadays

C it's common for women to get together to cook for a few days

D family members can know more about each other by having meals together

For those who study the development of intelligence (智力) in the animal world,self-awareness is an important measurement An animal that is aware (意识) of itself has a high level of intelligence

Awareness can be tested by studying whether the animal recognizes itself in the mirror, that is, its own reflected image (反射出的影像) Many animals fail this exercise bitterly, paying very little attention to the reflected image only humans, and some intelligent animals like apes and dolphins, have been shown to recognize that the image in the mirror is of themselves

Now another animal has joined the club In the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers report that an Asian elephant has passed the mirror self-reflection test

“We thought that elephants were the next important animal,”said Diana Reiss of the Wildlife Conservation Society, an author of the study with Joshua M Plotnik and Fans B M de Waal of Emory University With their large brains,Reiss said, elephants “seemed like cousins to apes and dolphins”

The researchers tested Happy Maxine and Patty, three elephants at the Bronx Zoo They put an 8-foot-square mirror on a wall of the animals' play area (out of the sight of zoo visitors) and recorded what happened with cameras, including one built in the mirror

The elephants used their long noses to find what was behind it,and to examine parts of their bodies

Of the three, Happy then passed the test,in which a clear mark was painted on one side of her face She could tell the mark was there by looking in the mirror, and she used the mirror to touch the mark with her long nose

Diana Reiss said,“We knew elephants were intelligent, but now we can talk about their intelligence in a better way”

 文章通过实验说明能意识到自身形象的动物具有高智商。

 第一篇:

Shopping for clothes is not the same experience for a man as it is for a woman A man goes shopping because he needs something His purpose is settled and decided in advance He knows what he wants, and his objective is to find it and buy it; the price is a secondary consideration All men simply walk into a shop and ask the assistant for what they want If the shop has it in stock, the salesman promptly produces it, and the business of trying it on follows at once All being well, the deal can be and often is completed in less than five minutes, with hardly any chat and to everyone's satisfaction

For a man, slight problems may begin when the shop does not have what he wants, or does not have exactly what he wants In that case the salesman, as the name implies, tries to sell the customer something else, he offers the nearest he can to the article required No good salesman brings out such a substitute impolitely; he does so with skill: “I know this jacket is not the style you want, sir, but would you like to try it for size It happens to be the color you mentioned” Few men have patience with this treatment, and the usual response is: “This is the right color and may be the right size, but I should be wasting my time and yours by trying it on”

Now how does a woman go about buying clothes In almost every respect she does so in the opposite way Her shopping is not often based on need She has never fully made up her mind what she wants, and she is only “having a look round” She is always open to persuasion; indeed she sets great store bywhat the saleswoman tells her, even by what companions tell her She will try on any number of things Uppermost in her mind is the thought of finding something that everyone thinks suits her Contrary to a lot of jokes, most women have an excellent sense of value when they buy clothes They are always on the lockout for the unexpected bargain Faced with a roomful of dresses, a woman may easily spendan hour going from one rail to another, to and fro, often retracing her steps, before selecting the dresses she wants to try on It is a laborious process, but apparently an enjoyable one Most dress shops provide chairs for the waiting husbands

20 What is the most obvious difference between men and women shoppers

A Men do not try clothes on in a shop while women do

B Women bargain for their clothes, but men do not

A little under one-third of US families have no Internet access and do not plan to get it, with most of the holdouts seeing little use for it in their lives, according to a survey released on Friday

Park Associates, a Dallas-based technology market research firm, said 29 percent of US families, or 31 million homes, do not have Internet access and do not intend to subscribe(预订)to an Internet service over the next 12 months The second annual National Technology Scan conducted by Park found that the main reason why potential customers say they do not subscribe to the Internet is because of the low value to their daily lives rather than concerns over cost

Forty-four percent of these families say they are not interested in anything on the Internet, versus just 22 percent who say they cannot afford a computer or the cost of Internet service, the survey showed The answer “I’m not sure how to use the Internet” came from 17 percent of participants who do not subscribe The response “I do all my e-commerce shopping and YouTube-watching at work” was cited by 14 percent of Internet-access users Three percent said the Internet doesn’t reach their homes

The study found US broadband adoption grew to 52 percent over 2006, up from 42 percent in 2005 Roughly half of new subscribers converted(转变)from slower-speed, dial-up Internet access while the other half of families had no prior access

“The industry continues to chip(击破)away at the core of non-subscribers, but has a long way to go,” said John Barrett, director of research at Parks Associates “Entertainment applications will be the key If anything will pull in the holdouts, it’s going to be applications that make the Internet more similar to pay-TV,” he predicted

1 What does the underlined word “holdouts” in the first paragraph most probably mean

 A some American families

B those who hold out one’s opinions

C those who have been surveyed

D those who still haven’t access to the Internet currently

2 Many potential customers refuse to subscribe to the Internet mainly because _________

A they show too much concern about the cost B they can find little value of it

C they do most YouTube-watching at work D the Internet doesn’t reach their homes

3 From the passage we can infer that ________

A It is not an easy job to transform those holdouts into the Internet users

B people will adopt dial-up Internet access no more

C many Americans enjoy doing e-commerce shopping at home

D more than half of the population are using the Internet in 2005

4 According to John Barrett, what is the key to attracting more US families to broadband service

A making the Internet look more similar to TV set

B applying the Internet more to entertainment

 C providing more pay-TV programs

D chipping away at the core of non-subscribers

5 Which is the best title for the passage

A Web develops with technology B The present situation of web

C Many Americans see little point to web D It is urgent to promote web service

Teamwork is all about working together to achieve a common goal or purpose Is teamwork out of dateWhy is it so hard to effectively conduct teamwork in those days

One way we employ teamwork in everyday lives is by becoming a parent It is parents’ job to teach their children the basic skills and give them the knowledge they need to be successful in life This,to me,requires teamwork For example, the mother teaches her children manners and good health skills, while the father teaches them how to catch a ball or drive a car However,in today’s society,we find that more and more parents are feeling that this teamwork is a onesided thing According to a report, there are 137 million single parents raising their children in the US and this could be due to the fact that parents don’t take responsibility for their children,so they leave one parent to do it alone This is a sad fact, and it reflects that effective teamwork is losing ground in the parenting aspect of our everyday lives

Another place where teamwork affects us greatly is in our jobs It doesn’t matter if you have a small company or a large company:if you have at least one employee and yourself, then teamwork works I have noticed that with the current economic recession(衰退),people are racing to grab jobs but the quality of people’s work has gone down greatly It just appears to me that people do not take pride in their work any more They get to work as fast as they can, just to receive the paycheck, but their quality standards fly right out of the windows So I think teamwork is losing ground in the workforce

As you can see,we run into the aspects of teamwork in just about everything we do Do you believe teamwork is really losing ground in today’s societyI think it is

28Why does teamwork disappear in the parenting aspect of our daily life

AParents have no time to spare for their children

BParents have no chances to teach their children about it

CMany children are often brought up by a single parent

DMany children are independent to deal with their matters

29Teamwork is losing ground in the workforce mainly because

Aworkers don’t like to work together with others

Bworkers’ sense is affected by economic recession

Cworkers want to prove they are more capable

Dfewer workers are employed to save money

30The author wants us to believe his opinion by

 Alisting some data

 Bgiving some examples

 Casking some questions

 Danalyzing some cases

31The underlined phrase “fly right out of the windows” in Paragraph 3 means “ ”

 Adisappear BImprove Cincrease Dmatter

 D

Around four years ago,I received a call from the principal of our school as to the “Parents View” talk the next morning He asked me to speak to the group After the call,my whole body became feverish and panicky The time from his call to the next morning seemed like years The whole night,I could not sleep with many ominous apprehensions in mind One of them was to call the principal with regret and tell him that I could not come Finally,I gathered some courage I thought,“If I miss this opportunity, surely the school will never invite me again to any of their programs”

I reached the school in time Before my turn came,my whole body was trembling When my turn came and I started speaking,my heartbeat increased and my mouth went dry I wasn’t even able to read the written speech properly I was not aware of where I was standing and what I was reading That was the day when I realized my biggest weakness:Public Speaking

After my speech,I met with the principal and explained what happened to me He told me that this happens to everyone Even great speakers faced the same things when they started He suggested that I come again next time

Around one month later,I was invited to refer to a topic on motivation This time I was feeling comfortable My speech was appreciated by the principal as well as the teachers, because I was able to get my idea across to them They encouraged me and praised my efforts

After delivering it successfully,I became more confident I said to myself,“If I can speak in front of such a learned audience, like the principal who educates others,I can now speak in front of others too”

I started delivering lectures on various topics like Self Motivation,Personality Development,Personal Excellence,Spoken English and Presentation Skills This has become a passion for me I have learned that everything is possible if we have the courage to take the first step

32Which of the following is the best title for the passage

APractice Makes a Man a Better Speechmaker

BPublic Speaking Makes a Man Embarrassed

 CPrincipals Provide the Best Chances

DSpoken English Develops in Making Speeches

33The author had bad feelings before the speech because

Ahe disliked the idea of giving a lecture

Bhe had got a high fever before that

 Che regretted accepting the invitation

Dhe feared he couldn’t perform it properly

34What does the underlined part “ominous apprehensions” in the first paragraph mean

 AUnlucky opportunities BNegative ideas

 CCurious views DHappy comments

35What can we conclude from the passage

ANothing is to be got without pains but poverty

 BKnowledge makes humble;ignorance makes proud

CA journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step

DNecessity is the mother of invention
